The choice has been made: Ta lendab mesipuu poole (He Flies Towards the Beehive) will be launched into spacePublished: 04.06.2017

Last Saturday, the results of the public vote were announced. The beloved choral song Ta lendab mesipuu poole (He Flies Towards the Beehive), with music by Peep Sarapik and lyrics from a poem written over a century ago by one of Estonia’s greatest poets, Juhan Liiv, will be launched into space. The song was selected over 7 other choral songs that will be performed this summer at the XII Youth Song and Dance Celebration “Here I’ll Stay”. A recording of the song will be launched into space by an EstCube and Tallinn University of Technology Mektory satelliite.

The recording will be made at this summer’s song festival concert, which will then be saved to the memory of the ESTCube-2 and TTÜ100 satellites that will orbit the Earth over the next two years. In announcing the winner, the Song and Dance Celebration Foundation noted that while composer Peep Sarapik unfortunately did not live long enough to hear his choral work performed as one of the songs performed by all of the choirs together at the end of a song festival, perhaps now he will be able to up in the heavens.
