During the Estonia 100 centenary week state decorations will be presented in NarvaPublished: 21.02.2018

On Wednesday 21 February, celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia will reach Narva. At noon, the President of the Republic will present state decorations at the Narva College of the University of Tartu. A silver and gold coin dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia will also be presented at Narva College.

"During the Estonia 100 centenary week we are taking festivities all over Estonia, and it's natural that Narva, as the  third largest city in Estonia, deserves its own great event," Margus Kasterpalu, Head of Estonia 100 Major Events at the Government Office said. "It is not without reason, that the Estonian Declaration of Independence begins with the dedication to all the peoples of Estonia."

"The anticipation of the upcoming celebrations has long been felt and seen here," Mayor of Narva Tarmo Tammiste noted. "Naturally, both the townspeople and the city government have the great honour of attracting more attention than usual and to welcome such important guests,” Tammiste added.

The events dedicated to the Estonian centenary in Narva will begin at noon. At 12:00, at the University of Tartu Narva College, President Kersti Kaljulaid will host a ceremony where 166 people will receive state decorations. The winning speech of the young peoples competition "Write to Estonia!" will be presented by students of Tallinn’s 32nd Secondary School. At 1:30 p.m. the Estonia 100 silver and gold coins will be presented at Narva College. On hand will be the artists behind the coins Tiiu Pirsko, Mati Veermets, Margus Kadarik and Toomas Niklus.

At 5 p.m., a public open-air ceremony will begin on Narva Town Hall Square, where the President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid and the Mayor of Narva Tarmo Tammiste will speak. A concert for everyone living in Narva will be held at the Narva Astri Centre at 4:30 p.m. A concert at the Geneva Concert Hall will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a reception hosted by the mayor of Narva.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, the anniversary of the Republic is being celebrated for the first time with an entire centenary week, which tells the story of the independence of the country. From February 19 to 25 major centenary events will take place in Tallinn, Haapsalu, Narva, Viljandi, Pärnu, Paide and Tartu.
