On Saturday 24 February, the Republic of Estonia celebrates its 100th anniversary of independence. The traditional grand events of the state's most festive holiday will take place all over Estonia. Conductor Hirvo Surva has called on all people of Estonia to hug those close to them tonight at 20:18.

"Estonia's centenary, our united day of celebration, is at hand," Jaanus Rohumaa, Head of the Organising Committee of Estonia 100 said. "Estonians can sometimes seem to have a northerly chilly demeanour, but on an occasion as important as today, we could heed the call to action of our beloved conductor. Let's give the people we care about the gift of a hug tonight at 20:18."
