Trad.Attack! All around Europe tour: Kaustinen festival, Finland

Trad.Attack! is celebrating the grandest event in Estonian history with a concert tour, All around Europe, performing in EU member states - including Finland at Kaustinen festival.

2017 is when Estonia holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, while 2018 will mark 100 years since the establishment of the Republic of Estonia. Estonian band Trad.Attack! will celebrate these important historic milestones in their country’s history by presenting its unique modern vision of traditional Estonian folk music in EU member states with the All around Europe concert tour.

Trad.Attack!’s concert tour will also run from 1 July 2017 to 31 December 2018, taking the band’s fresh approach and energetic performances to many festivals and venues. The schedule of concerts to be held in EU countries will be announced and updated on Trad.Attack!’s website.

According to Trad.Attack!’s guitarist, Jalmar Vabarna, the repertoire of Trad.Attack! consists exclusively of Estonian music, including some archive recordings which are about 100 years old. “At our concerts we always share facts about Estonian music archives, old-time singing mothers and music traditions. As part of the tour, we will also lead workshops on Estonia, traditional music, and folk instruments, to publicise Estonia as a mystical and enticing country where traditions are held in high esteem."

"We want to dedicate this concert tour especially to two historic milestones in our country’s history – Estonia’s centenary and Estonia’s first Presidency of the Council of the EU, as we plan to bring our music to all EU member states.”

Trad.Attack!’s European concert tour was selected as one of the projects to receive funding from the Estonia 100 and EU Presidency joint international program that will include events to promote Estonia abroad in 2017 and 2018.

Trad.Attack! has really turned Estonian music scene upside down by bringing traditional music to the big stages, building modern world around its archaic sounds. It is often said that the band with its three members sounds so big that you would think there's much more people on the stage. They take traditional songs – sometimes starting with scratchy recordings of long vanished village voices – and build pulsating rhythmic structures, creating an impressively big sound from acoustic 12-string guitar, drums and an array of whistles, bagpipes and jew’s harps. All three band members grew up with music around them and each had been active on the Estonian music scene for more than 15 years before they started Trad.Attack! in 2014. In the beginning it was meant to be just simple, fun and experimental. Surprisingly for the band, their first tune “Kooreke” became a hit in Estonia... Since then the band has received 14 Music Awards in Estonia, released their debut album "AH!" recognized internationally and toured in 27 countries from China to Canada, including significant showcase festivals as WOMEX, Eurosonic and Transmusicales. They’re still a bit surprised about their success but definitely having lots of fun and getting ready to launch new album "Shimmer Gold" in May 2017.
