The works of Estonian photographer Arthur Lestal

My great-grandfather Arthur Lestal (1887 - 1941) was an Estonian photographer. Most of his photographs were taken during Estonia's first period of independence. I would like to share them for EV100.

Most of Arthur Lestal's works include photographs taken of local events in Harju and Järva Counties during the 1930s. These events include church gatherings, the construction of public buildings, school and sporting events, farming and industry as well as family portraits taken inside clients' homes. Arthur's photographs capture the essence of life in Estonia during its first period of independence.

As part of the EV100 celebrations I would like to showcase Arthur's work. Many of his photographs have been printed as postcards and I have been collecting them for many years. In his memory I have created a Flickr account of his photographs. They offer a glimpse into this bygone era that was a delightful time in Estonia's history.
