2018 is the year of 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia and European Year For Culture Heritage. Those both subjects are echoing back from the artworks of Emmaste students. Young authors have found the basic values to share with you. Children exhibit themselves as active creators of the cultural heritage but also as keepers inviting the spectators to understand and collaborate. The exhibition is truly thought-provoking.
Curator of the exhibition is Eila Tõnisson, teacher of art and handicraft in Emmaste Elementary school. „We are charmed by the life happening around us“, said the curator. „The exhibition encourages you to reflect upon it because everything starts at home, at an Estonian home, at a Hiiumaa home or garden.“ Gouasche paintings depicting the forest in every weather and season.
We are Hiiumaa islanders in 100-year-old Estonia and walk into the Great Wide World. What kind of footprints do we leave behind? That depends on the Home too. Exhibition suggest which type of footprints we´d wish to leave behind. Traces are left behind by everything we care about: football, national dancing, Emmaste choir but also by climate change, healthy eating, Hiiumaa skirt patterns, handicraft, beloved pets, coastal meadows and sheep cattles, our 100-year arrivals, comings and meetings. About everyone´s story of life. What role do Hiiumaa islanders and Estonians have in the dialog of other cultures of the world and which Hiiumaa-like characteristics can we find from there?
