Whether young or old, amateur or expert, tourist or Brussels resident, merchant or buyer, there is something for everyone in the wide variety of activities on offer.
Estonia will also be taking part in the festival! The Estonian comics scene is quite young and experimental, but has been developing rapidly in the recent years. Estonian Comics Society, which was founded in 2012, promotes the work of a number of contemporary comics artists and illustrators, who offer a wide range of styles but share a typically Estonian, dry sense humour. This year, you can find Liisa Kruusmägi, Kivi Larmola (FIN), Sanna Larmola (FIN), Mari Laaniste and Ivar Laus at the Estonian table. The Estonian Comics Society will be part of the international stand organised by EUNIC Brussels (network of European national institutes for culture based in Brussels).
During the whole weekend, you can take part in different workshops and discussion rounds. The Estonian delegation will be offering the following activities:
Friday, 1 September at 17.00 – Liisa Kruusmägi will be leading a playful drawing workshop, both children and adults can participate. Where: EUNIC stand.
Saturday, 2 September at 13.45 – Estonian Comics Society will lead the discussion panel about how travelling and living abroad shapes the creation of a comic strip artist. Where: BOZAR Studio.
Saturday, 2. September at 17.00 – in a practical workshop, Kivi and Sanna Larmola (from Finland, currently living in Estonia) will talk about how to create an autobiografic comic book. Participants of all ages are welcome. Where: EUNIC stand.
