‘Within two weeks, more than 10,000 people have visited the armoured train and the exhibition on the history of the War of Independence’, said Hellar Lill, the director of the Estonian War Museum. ‘Such a big public interest can only show the interest of the Estonian people in the story of Estonia’s independence,’ added Lill.
‘During the ‘Wabadus journey’ in January, the armoured train will also make stops in Elva, Puka, Sangaste and Valga,’ said Margus Kasterpalu, Head of Major Events of Estonia 100, Government Office.
‘In Valga, we will celebrate the passing of one hundred years from the liberation of the Estonian territory with the arrival of the armoured train and various other events. After January, the armoured train ‘Wabadus’ will go along the rest of the railways on a journey across Estonia that will last until the end of 2019,’ he added.
The Estonia 100 jubilee festivities will continue until 2 February 2020, when 100 years have passed since the Tartu Peace Treaty. In 2019, the events will be focusing on the 100th anniversary of the Estonian War of Independence.
