Juubeliaasta Gaudeamus: jaanipäeva laulud rändavad läbi tuhande aasta | EV100

Kardlas ja Tartu Toomkiriku varemeist loodud võtteplatsil olid teiste hulgas Birgit Sarrap, Maarja Jakobson, Margus Jaanovits, Liisa Saaremäel, Karl Laumets ja Veiko Porkanen.

Filmisarja käsikirja autor on kirjanik Indrek Hargla, lavastab Ain Mäeots ja kunstnikutööd teeb Maarja Meeru. «Jaanipäeva laulud» kunstiline juht on dirigent Kuno Kerge.

Mis on «Jaanipäeva laulud»?

«Jaanipäeva laulud» seob koorilaulu senisest laiemalt filmi- ja etenduskunstiga.

Kontsert, laulupidu ja lavastus on pühendatud jaanipäevale ja kolme Balti väikerahva suvise pööripäevade traditsioonidele. Laulupeol astuvad üles Baltikumi parimad üliõpilaskoorid ja -orkestrid. Kavas on tempokas repertuaar. Ettekandele tulevad paljude armastatud laulude kõrval ka uudisteosed ning uude kuude säetud tuntud laulud.

Kaader võtteplatsilt / Jaanipäeva laulud – kontsert, laulupidu, etendus

Vorstipeo tõeline hing

Programm põhineb Indrek Hargla kirjutatud neljal, mõtlemapaneval jutustusel. Lugude teema on üks: milline on meie jaoks jaanipäeva tõeline tähendus?

Gaudeamus toob kolme rahva jaanipäeva Tartu linna lavadele | EV100

Emmaste Elementary School´s Art exhibition „I´m Estonian but still be Hiiumaa islander“ | EV100

2018 is the year of 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia and European Year For Culture Heritage. Those both subjects are echoing back from the artworks of Emmaste students. Young authors have found the basic values to share with you. Children exhibit themselves as active creators of the cultural heritage but also as keepers inviting the spectators to understand and collaborate. The exhibition is truly thought-provoking.

Curator of the exhibition is Eila Tõnisson, teacher of art and handicraft in Emmaste Elementary school. „We are charmed by the life happening around us“, said the curator. „The exhibition encourages you to reflect upon it because everything starts at home, at an Estonian home, at a Hiiumaa home or garden.“ Gouasche paintings depicting the forest in every weather and season.

We are Hiiumaa islanders in 100-year-old Estonia and walk into the Great Wide World. What kind of footprints do we leave behind? That depends on the Home too. Exhibition suggest which type of footprints we´d wish to leave behind. Traces are left behind by everything we care about: football, national dancing, Emmaste choir but also by climate change, healthy eating, Hiiumaa skirt patterns, handicraft, beloved pets, coastal meadows and sheep cattles, our 100-year arrivals, comings and meetings. About everyone´s story of life. What role do Hiiumaa islanders and Estonians have in the dialog of other cultures of the world and which Hiiumaa-like characteristics can we find from there?

Exhibition is open until 31. August Wed-Sun 11 am – 5 pm, Mon-Tue closed

VIA BALTICA – Art Song from three countries | EV100

My dear colleague, the Latvian Soprano Gunta Smirnova`s and my wish to sing together at a recital got fuelled all the more by the Jubilee year of our countries of origin – 2018 the Latvian, Estonian as well as the Lithuanian Republics celebrate their 100th birthdays, and we ended up planning it closest to the Latvian anniversary (Nov 18th.)

We have often been asked, if we understand each others language – the answer is, of course, if you have learned it – yes. We will sing in Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian, though, but both having to put an extra effort into learning to sing in yet another foreign language. We do love the challenge!

Apart from the linguistic differences, the Baltic Nations differ in cuisine, (religious) demopraghics, the coastline along the Baltic Sea or the colours on our flags. But there is definitely more of that what unites us, naming the closest historic events of the Singing Revolution and The Baltic Way to being with; not to forget the geographical situation and wildlife, the gatherers` habits and the Song&Dance Celebrations; and finally the fact that all Republics have had a female president by now!

With our concert we wish to discuss, remember and share our similarities and differences through the medium of art song, viewed in three periods of the last century in parallel – the pre-War, the Soviet and the restored Independence period. It is worth mentioning that the music of all three countries is almost never performed in the same program.

Our much appreciated and celebrated partner is the renowned pianist, conductur and horn-player, professor at the Music Academy of the City of Basel, organizer of the Engadin Festival and head of the class for Interpretation of Lied at the Music Academy, Jan Schultsz.

You are also invited to celebrate with us the 70th anniversary of SBK, after the concert with refreshments featuring fingerfood&fruit wine from the 3 countries.

Tere tulemast! Laipni aicināti! Sveiki atvykę!

Jane Tiik

Nowy Teatr's show about sign languages: One Gesture | EV100

Performances in Tallinn are financed from the funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, within the scope of the Multiannual Program INDEPENDENT 2017-2021 and dedicated to EV100.

One Gesture is a show about sign languages. It is a show about communicating with the world – with the world of the hearing and with the world of the other Deaf. How does communication work?

NOWY TEATR is the place for broadening of the artistic battlefield. Created by Krzysztof Warlikowski and a group of his regular collaborators, Nowy Teatr wants to exploit the spaces of dialogue with the audience, not limiting themselves solely to theatrical pursuits. It is a space that represents a new artistic situation, a free field of action for the invited artists and curators, somewhere that is being developed by people with ideas. We are among the most active institutions in representing Polish culture in the international arena.

Performances are for free on 28.11 at 19:30 and 29.11 at14:00 and 19:30. Please registere before: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdwKa9y30r2WkkLtfx3X9w6LFtLXhz7rIdPrA20y_SpP-9d8w/viewform

One Gesture is a show about sign languages. It is a show about communicating with the world – with the world of the hearing and with the world of the other Deaf. How does communication work? How are knowledge, emotion and culture transmitted, produced and processed? If language is the only reality we have access to („The limits of my language mean the limits of my world” – as Wittgenstein said), what can we learn about the world from the languages of the Deaf? What is universal about their experience of communicating, and what is unique? And how come none of my friends have any Deaf friends?

Let me cite a number of truisms from the collection of Truisms by Jenny Holzer, an American neoconceptual artist. These phrases seem the simplest thing there is. Until you look at them from the standpoint of sign language:Listen when your body talks.People who don’t work with their hands are parasites.Words tend to be inadequate.Description is more important than metaphor.Abstraction is a type of decadence.

You are responsible for constituting the meaning of things.

It is a piece that asks how do we deal with each other and the «otherness» in general. It feels like an important piece of work right now, in these times, because it talks about language, communication, exclusion and integration without a specific geographical, racial or religious context. The Estonia 100 program offers celebrations from Vastseliina to Washington | EV100

The Estonia 100 program, ongoing until the end of the anniversary period, offers thousands of opportunities to celebrate around the world. Check out what the key events are in 2018 that you should mark in your calendar!

  • The anniversary year of the Republic of Estonia can be celebrated in more than a thousand ways.
  • The Estonia 100 program continues until 2 February 2020.
  • Everyone has the opportunity to add Estonia 100 celebration events to the program through the Estonia 100 webpage  www.ev100.ee

The Estonia 100 program is divided into 12 sub-programs:

Estonia 100 key events in 2017 and 2018

  • 28 November 2017: The 100th Anniversary of Estonia’s National Self-Determination

100 years ago, the Estonian Provisional Assembly proclaimed itself the sole supreme authority in Estonia, until the convening of the Estonian Constituent Assembly, thus creating the preconditions for the proclamation of independence. For this reason, a festive sitting in the chamber of the Riigikogu will take place, where delegates of the Young People’s Maapäev will present their manifesto. At the Metsakalmistu (Forest Cemetery), a cenotaph will be opened for nine heads of state whose burial places are unknown.

  • 31 December / 1 January 2018: Beginning of the Anniversary Year

The beginning of the anniversary year will be celebrated with Pärt Uusberg’s “Eestimaa atmosfäärid” (“The Atmospheres of Estonia”), which will premiere at the Solaris Centre. Estonian Public Broadcasting’s end-of-year program will have live streaming from Tallinn’s Freedom Square, bringing the president’s speech, as well as the open air concert and fireworks to audiences all across Estonia.

  • 19-25 February: Estonia 100 Centenary Week

The centenary week will see key anniversary events across Estonia. National cultural and scientific prizes will be awarded in Haapsalu, honourary decorations will be presented by the president in Narva, the religious service will take place in Paide, the gala in Tartu, and the flag raising and parade in Tallinn. On 23 February, the Independence Manifesto will be read aloud in Pärnu, just like 100 years ago.

  • 5 May: Estonia 100 “Let’s Do It!” Cleanup Day

This time, the communal workers are invited to rediscover and reuse the colours of the folk costumes of their home parishes. Whether it will be a granary door, a bus shelter in a village centre or even a cultural centre that will be fixed-up and then painted in folk stripes is, of course, up to the workers to decide.

At this year’s Mother’s Day concerts, audiences can enjoy new works by our famous musicians and singers, created especially for this day. The new works will be performed by the artists together with children on stages all across Estonia.

  • 19-25 August: Estonia 100 Great Summer Week

A national sing-along at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds will take place in the beginning of the Great Summer Week. The week ends with the Night of Ancient Lights on our beaches. Meanwhile, we invite you to discover Estonia – travel by land and water, on foot and by bike, and to listen to concerts in beautiful places all over Estonia.

  • 15 September: Let’s Do It World

Initially, “Let’s do it!” meant that we cleaned up our immediate environment as part of communal work. During the centenary year, we will help clean up garbage the world over. This is Estonia’s gift to our planet.

  • 11 November: Father’s Day

100 years ago, World War I ended.  For Estonia, this was the opportunity to start the construction of an independent state proclaimed in February. However, on 28 November already, the Estonian War of Independence began, which was finally ended by the conclusion of the Peace Treaty in Tartu on 2 February 1920. The Republic of Estonia was born and had survived.
Therefore, the 100th anniversary of the Tartu Peace Treaty also ends the anniversary period of Estonia 100.

The Estonia 100 program is extensive. Here are some events listed according to sub-program.
