Estonia received over 5,500 oak trees for its centenary | EV100

“One of the most remarkable gifts to Estonia has come to fruition,” state secretary Heiki Loot said at the event thanking representatives of schools and local governments at Stenbock House. “We have left a strong and forward-looking message to the next generation about Estonia’s endurance,” Loot added.

Preparations for the “Estonia’s 100 oaks” great gift began with the Government Office’s initiative in 2013, when children began to grow seedlings, which had sprouted from the acorns they had gathered themselves all over Estonia. According to the head of the Government Office’s Estonia 100 organising committee Jaanus Rohumaa, many schools, municipalities, organizations and private individuals have planted thousands of oak trees as a gift for Estonia.

“This is a proud joint achievement. I dare to believe that the number of oaks is actually even greater. It is heartwarming that so many people all over Estonia have planted their own centenary oak or created an oak park to celebrate our common anniversary,” Rohumaa added.

In the spring of the centenary year, every Estonian county received at least one new oak park, which was established as a co-operative effort between local governments and local children. Individuals, families, companies and organizations, both in Estonia and abroad, have also contributed to the initiative. Many of the oak parks were opened across Estonia on June 1, including a five-hectare national park in Tamsalu.

Let’s give Estonia gifts!

The 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia is a celebration for everyone and the perfect opportunity to give and receive gifts! Everyone is invited to plan initiatives and events that will bring something positive to individuals, communities or the entire nation, and shape a better future for us all. All such endeavours organised in honour of Estonia 100 are what we call ‘gifts’ and are a welcome and important part of the Estonia 100 programme. Many gifts are already being planned or have already been made by groups of friends, local communities, NGOs, ministries, businesses, associations and other organisations.

39_poiss_tydrik-5761266Looking towards the future

While the Estonia 100 jubilee period is based on the milestones of the emergence of Estonia’s statehood, the centenary programme is focused primarily on the future. The centenary programme will engage almost every area of life and give Estonian communities around the world a chance to look back at our past, highlight the present day and set new goals for tomorrow. To be both ancient and innovative, curious and self-confident.

Estonia 100 focus is on children and youth

The focus of the Estonia 100 centenary celebrations is on children and youth, as we are building the country for them and their future. The organising committee is making sure that there will be plenty of events for children and youth, but also that initiatives with a long-term impact are planned taking into account the needs and wishes of young people. One of the greatest initiatives with the future of our children in mind is ‘An Instrument for Every Child’, a project to help fund the purchase of new musical instruments for music schools across the country. Among other events, the ‘Children’s Republic’ will bring the celebrations to communities throughout the country, and students all over Estonia have been planting acorns and growing saplings for the Estonia 100 Oaks project to plant oak groves in honour of the centenary. Two full-length children’s films will premiere as part of the festivities – one with Estonia’s beloved cartoon dog Lotte and her friends, and another introducing a new set of characters in ‘Eia’s Christmas at Phantom Owl Farm’.

5_ratastel-5303590Everyone is welcome

Estonia 100 is a celebration that for the most part will be shaped by the people themselves. Everyone in Estonia – regardless of ethnic origin, native language, creed or how long they have been here – is welcome to join in the festivities. All Estonians abroad and friends of Estonia throughout the world are also invited to take part in the Estonia 100 programme. The greatest gift that Estonians living abroad can give Estonia is to come visit and join in the celebrations here.

The Estonia 100 celebrations will span three years

No state is born in a day. Estonian statehood emerged as a result of the efforts of many, and many of these significant events merit commemoration. For this reason, the most important jubilee in the history of our nation will be celebrated over a longer period of time. The programme begun in April 2017, marking the anniversary of the unification of the territories settled by Estonians. The highlight will be on February 24, 2018 when we celebrate the official 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. The celebrations will then continue through 2019 to commemorate the most important and decisive battles in the War of Independence, culminating in February 2020 when 100 years will have past from the signing of the Tartu Peace Treaty.

The Estonia 100 celebrations consist of five different thematic stages: our land, our state, our people, our freedom and our future.

Our land will focus on the territory we have lived on for thousands of years. This is where we sense our roots, our story and everything that surrounds us with the greatest of nuance – the view of the sea, the silence of the marsh, the scent of our spruce and pine forests. This is our home.
Our state will tell the story of the birth of our independent state. There was a time when this was a dream only for the mad or those who were considered mad. Now it is a reality, but our hard-fought freedom should not be taken for granted. The story of our statehood is one of courage mixed with a dose of good fortune.
Our people will be the time for us to celebrate together and enjoy one another’s company. It is the time to notice those around us, their skills, talents and special qualities. We will exchange gifts and organise get-togethers. There can be no country without a people, and this is where we are. No people in Europe has continuously inhabited one area longer.
Our freedom will be the period during which we commemorate the most important and decisive battles in the War of Independence and think about what freedom really means. Freedom – also in the meaning of independence and sovereignty – is self-evident, natural and even unnoticeable – when you have it. It’s easy to get used to. But this has not always been the case. What does freedom mean to us today?
Our future will be the time to wrap up the centenary celebrations and make plans for the future. So that Estonia will be a great place to live for us and for those who follow us for the next hundred years.

Estonia’s centenary is celebrated around the world

The aim of the Estonia 100 international programme is to combine efforts to raise Estonia’s profile globally. The programme provides support to more than 150 cultural, educational, research and technological events in 2017 and 2018. Undoubtedly one of the greatest events will be World Cleanup Day on September 15, 2018, which will be a gift from Estonians to the world. Estonia will also be promoted in the public space of a number of European cities with a ‘Digital Street Art’ creative solution, combining graffiti, history and digital technology. The creator is our own ‘Estonian Banksy’, Edward von Lõngus. Events abroad that will draw attention to Estonia in 2018 can still be added to the programme.

„Aga mina lähen filmifestivalile“ | EV100

Juba 18 aastat järjest on PÖFFi suurim alafestival Just Film käivitanud novembris oma kinoprojektorid. Tänavune festival on aga mitmes mõttes märgiline. Kõige silmnähtavam muudatus on see, et Just Film on tänavu sama pikk kui PÖFFi põhiprogramm ehk koguni 17 päeva. See tähendab vaatajate jaoks võimalust käia senisest rohkem kinos ja vaadata Just Filmi rikkalikku filmiprogrammi.

Just Filmi programmist just selle suunitlusega filme leiabki.

Nimelt on Justi maskott, meie Hundu, võtnud endale kuju ning sellest vahvast sellist on valminud tore mänguasi, mida on võimalik leida PÖFFi infopunktidest.

The final celebration of the jubilee year brought nearly 70,000 people to town squares | EV100

‘Full Speed Ahead, Estonia!’, the final celebration of the jubilee year, took place in all county centres and in Narva. The organisers’ estimations of the numbers of attendees are as follows: Haapsalu – 400, Jõgeva – 500, Jõhvi – 2,000, Kuressaare – 4,500, Kärdla – 1,000, Narva – 3,000, Paide – 3,000, Põlva – 2,000, Pärnu – 8,000, Rakvere – 8,000, Rapla – 1,000, Tallinn – 20,000, Tartu – 12,000, Valga – 350, Viljandi – 500, and Võru – 1,000.

According to the data of the organising committee of Estonia 100, the feedback given to the final celebration of the jubilee year has been very positive across the country. ‘We are grateful to all Estonian cities and to the people who joined the initiative of a joint celebration to end the jubilee year. The New Year’s Eve on Estonian town squares was a friendly and lovely celebration and we hope it provides inspiration to New Year’s Eves of the future,’ said Soe.

More than 8000 people participated in the joint dance event

The joint dance event “Estonia Dances” united more than 8,000 people all over Estonia on the afternoon of 31 December. In addition to joint dances in 16 cities, several spontaneous dance events took place all over Estonia.

‘The true dance of the century took place on the last day of the jubilee year,’ said Maarja Liisa Soe, Head of the Estonia 100 Programme. ‘I am beyond glad that the joint dance united younger and older people, families and friend groups. Each participant contributed to ending the Estonia 100 initiative ‘Estonia Dances’ in memorable fashion,’ Soe added.

The initiative ‘Estonia Dances’ was led by the Estonian Dance Agency and Estonian Public Broadcasting in cooperation with the organising committee of Estonia 100. Nearly 200 dance videos were created during the jubilee year as part of ‘Estonia Dances’, all of which can be found on the website of Estonian Public Broadcasting at www.err.ee/eestitantsib.

Asutav Kogu 100 – Riigikogu 100 | EV100

100 aasta möödumist Eesti Vabariigi esimese demokraatliku esinduskogu valimisest tähistame reedel 5. aprillil austusküünalde süütamisega kõikide 120 Asutavasse Kogusse valitud rahvasaadiku sünnikohas. (Fotol: Asutava Kogu avaistung Estonia teatris; EAA.3825.1.138.34)

Aprillis möödub 100 aastat Asutava Kogu kokkutulemisest. Asutav Kogu tuli kokku Tallinnas Estonia teatrimajas jüripäeval, 23. aprillil 1919. See on ühtlasi Eesti rahvaesinduse, Riigikogu sünnipäev.

100 aastat tagasi valiti Eesti Vabariigi esimese rahvaesinduse – Asutava Kogu – kokkukutsumiseks jüripäev. 1919. aasta aprilli alguses valitud saadikud kogunesid Estonia teatris 23. aprillil. 2019. aasta jüriööl, 22. aprillil süttib Paide ordulinnuse tornis jüriöö tuli, mis viiakse edasi üle Eesti viide suunda: Tallinna, Pärnu, Tartu, Rakverre ja Viljandi. See sündmus tähistab 100 aastat tagasi Asutava Kogu rahvaesindajate jõudmist Tallinna ja tulevase Riigikogu sündi. Sündmust tähistab kontsert ja tuletseremoonia Paide Vallimäel. The Arvo Pärt Centre is now open | EV100

The Arvo Pärt Centre is the personal archive of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, as well as a music and information centre for all who are interested in his work and everything related to it. In addition to modern archival repositories, the building houses a 150-seat chamber hall, library, exhibition hall, film room and classroom. The heart of the centre is an archive containing information and documents related to the composer’s works in both physical and digital form. The most valuable asset in the archives is Arvo Pärt’s manuscripts: sketches of works, scores and notebooks in journal form.

“Arvo Pärt is a national symbol and Estonian ambassador to the whole world. In the centenary year, all Estonian people and our guests will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the music and ideas of one of the most beloved composers in the renovated Arvo Pärt Centre,” Jaanus Rohumaa, head of the Estonia 100 organising committee said.

From 18 October, the Arvo Pärt Centre is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12 noon to 18:00. Read more about the Arvo Pärt Centre here.

See on pere.” – Arvo Pärt

ETV saade Ringvaade viis helilooja omanimelise keskusega tutvuma:

Hoone ehitusprojekt valmis koostöös arhitektuuribürooga Luhse & Tuhal Eestist, AS Ehitustrust alustas ehitustöödega 2017. aasta märtsis, hoone valmis 2018. aasta oktoobris. Hoone pindala on 2385 m2, ehitusmaterjalidena on kasutatud looduslikke materjale: klaasi, puitu ja betooni ning hoonel on tänapäevased taastuvenergia süsteemid.

AS Ehitustrust juhatuse esimees Kaido Somelar kinnitas, et on väga rahul tehtud suure tööga. “Alles nüüd, kui keskuse uus hoone on valmis ja ootab oma külastajaid, hakkab mulle kohale jõudma, millega Ehitustrusti meeskond hakkama on saanud. See hoone on väga kaugel lihtsast objektist: erinevad isiksused, maailmapildid, arhitektuuri keerukus, Arvo Pärdi iganädalased külastused – kuidas kõik need elemendid tööprotsessi käigus kokku sulatati, pakub rahulolu. Ma tõesti arvan, et see äratundmine jõuab alles hiljem kõigi nende inimesteni, kes selles projektis osalesid.”

Arvo Pärdi Keskuse uue hoone ehitust rahastas Eesti riik ning keskus valmis Eesti Vabariigi 100. sünnipäeva-aastal.

“Arvo Pärt on rahvuslik sümbol ja Eesti suursaadik terves maailmas. Juubeliaastal avaneb kõigil Eesti inimestel ja meie külalistel võimalus uuenenud Arvo Pärdi Keskuses ühe armastatuima helilooja muusika ja mõttemaailmaga sügavuti tutvuda,” sõnas EV100 korraldustoimkonna juht Jaanus Rohumaa.

Sajad inimesed istutasid Keilas 100 tamme parki | EV100

Enamik EV100 tammeparke avatakse 1. juunil 2018, sealhulgas viie hektari suurune riigi esindustammik Tamsalus.

Looduskaitsekuu matk ” Valgejõe vallatud käänud” | EV100

Matk toimub 12. mai 2018. Kogunemine kell 10.30   Liiapeksi – Nõmmeveski teede ristmikul, kus kunagi oli bussipeatus nimega Virusilla ja lõpp Nõmmeveski joa juures orienteeruvalt kell 15.30

Matka juhib Maie Itse ja orienteeruv jalgsiretke pikkus on 12 km

Valgejõgi on Lahemaa suurim ja pikim jõgi, mille pikkus 85 km ja valgla 453 km². Kotka ja Nõmmeveski vahelisel alal meenutab Valgejõgi pealtvaates looklevat mägiteed.  Kohas, kus Valgejõe klindiorgu vasakult laskuv Vasaristi oja lõikub sügavalt Kolgaküla klindipoolsaare kirdenõlva  asub Vasaritsi joastik. Joastiku taganemisest on maha jäänud enam kui 60 m pikkune ja kuni 10 m sügavune kanjoniorg. Voolunõva laius on joastiku kohal ligi 6 m. Ülesvoolu on ojal mitmeid karstiala-salajõe tõusuallikaid. Valgejõe kaldal Nõmmeveskil olev paljand on arvele võetud ürglooduse objektina. Valgejõe suudmest 19 km kaugusel asub Nõmmeveski juga. 1924. aastal pani Jakob Hurda väimees Aleksander Mohrfeldt. nurgakivi rajatavale hüdroelektrijaamale, mis  1964. aastal  hävis tulekahjus ning on praegu varemeis.
